EVENING SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Saturday, July 29, 7:00 pm -10:00 pm
The 71st annual meeting of the Southern Legislative Conference will officially kick off in "Mississippi's Front Yard," at Jones Park in Gulfport, just down the street from the Beau Rivage. During Hurricane Katrina, the City of Gulfport Marina and Jones Park was covered by 25 feet of floodwaters. After seven years and multiple funding sources, the $40 million Marina project reopened in August 2011, and Jones Park reopened to the public in May 2012. Please join us as we enjoy the ocean breeze and the state-of-the-art facilities overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.
Feast on local Mississippi delicacies like catfish, shrimp, turnip greens, barbecue, and beignets. Dive into the Blues, an integral part of the fabric of Mississippi culture. Enjoy the signature sounds of a Magnolia State favorite, Grammy-award-winning legend Bobby Rush. Bobby, also known as "The King of the Chitlin' Circuit," will have your toes tapping to his unique blend of blues, funk, and soul sounds. It's the kind of experience unique to Mississippi, the Birthplace of America's Music.
Sunday, July 30, 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The entire SLC family will have a ball at 2017 Family Night! Join us for a beach party at Fort Maurepas Park in Ocean Springs, the site of the first European colonization in Mississippi, and a short drive from the Beau Rivage. Gather around to roast s'mores, feast on chicken-on-a-stick, play volleyball or carnival games, satisfy your sweet tooth with cotton candy, or taste an ice-cold beer from one of Mississippi's local craft breweries.
Get the party started with the tunes of celebrated country music artist and Mississippi native, Steve Azar, as well as the knock-your-socks-off sounds of Jackson State University's Sonic Boom of the South. Don't miss this lively celebration on the beach!
